Gilda Lloyd

May 15, 1929 — June 8, 2021

Battle Creek

Gilda Elizabeth Lloyd, age 92 of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Grace Valley in Kalamazoo.  Jill was born May 15, 1929, in Berwick, Pennsylvania.  In October of 1952, she married Frederick (Ted) and they moved to Harrisburg, where Jill worked as a seamstress (she sewed many beautiful matching outfits for her girls, even sewing clothes for their Barbie dolls!).  They moved to Battle Creek in 1966 when Fred transferred to the HDI Federal Center.  Jill worked at LW Robinsons, then Security Bank and Comerica Bank.  Jill was dedicated to her family and loved to plan meals and cook (if you were going to miss Sunday dinner, you better have a good excuse!). Jill always loved the sun and the water.  In her younger years, she loved going to the beach; later in life she greatly enjoyed her pool (which Mary kept sparkling clean for her).  She is survived by her daughter, Antoinette Lau (David Vaughn); her precious grandson, Benjamin Lau (Amy Baker); her sister, Santina Welsh; nieces and nephews back east; and her very special friends, The Mermaids.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick; her daughter, Mary; and her brother, Joseph Savoca.   No services will be held, but she would appreciate a great big smile in her honor (hers could light up a room!) or if you prefer, a contribution to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  The family would like to thank the loving staff at Grace Valley and the Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan team for their compassionate care.  Arrangements by the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and Cremation Services. www.henryfuneralhome.org
