Jan G. White, Sr, 1SG, U.S. Army (Retired), age 76, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021. He was born April 7, 1945, in South Bend, Indiana the son of Leonard Leroy and Carol Margaret (Knott) Taylor. Jan began working at the age of 15 as a lifeguard at Willard Beach. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1963 and attended Kellogg Community College. He entered the U.S. Army in 1966 and proudly served 24 years retiring in 1990. He then began working at T.R.M.I. for the next 16 years and following that was a Park Ranger at Willard Beach for over 10 years. On January 3, 1967, he married Linda Kay (Willey) in Battle Creek. Together they enjoyed road trips throughout Michigan looking at the fall colors and visiting waterfalls. He loved working in his yard and in his younger years was an avid sailor. Jan is survived by his wife Linda; two sons: Jan (Heather) White, Jr. of Battle Creek and Eric White of Gaylord; four grandchildren: Brady Brogan, Lacey White, Shelby White and Allison White; one brother, one sister; two sisters-in-law: Sandy (Tom) Carpenter and Robin (Gary) Fredenburg; brother-in-law Mike Ware; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Leonard White, mother Carol Taylor, stepfather Duane Taylor, and sister-in-law June Ware. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 2021, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with interment following at Fort Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
