Lonnie Mayo

December 9, 1968 — October 3, 2022

Battle Creek

Lonnie H. Mayo, age 53 of Battle Creek, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022. He was born December 9, 1968, in Nashville, Tennessee the son of Russell Alton and Shannon Kay (Willavize) Mayo. Lonnie graduated from Pennfield High School in 1987 and went on to complete Trade School for Cleaning and Maintenance in Paw Paw, MI from 1997-1998. Lonnie worked at Borgess Medical Center from September 1998 to July 2003 in Housekeeping and Midwest Tool & Cutlery in Sturgis, MI from March 2003 to December 2012 in Janitorial and Maintenance.

He is survived by his stepfather: Burdette Bennett; sister: Trina (Scott) Niecko; two nieces: Chelsie (Zach) Tupper and Darian Niecko; three great-nephews: Maxsen, Gavin and Braylen Tupper; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Everyone who knew Lonnie felt his big heart and giving nature. Even though he had little to give he gave to many and with the expectation of nothing in return. He gave rides to many people who had no other way to get to work or the grocery store even when he had barely enough money to put gas in his vehicle to get him back and forth to his medical appointments. He gave half of his grocery money to his friends who were in less need them himself. He was a selfless giving individual to a fault even if he had to go without. He loved animals and children, especially his three great nephews, and the innocent took to him as he was innocent at heart as well. Lonnie enjoyed the outdoors, specifically the lake and fishing. and enjoyed taking care of and spending time with his cats. Lonnie's immediate and extended family and many friends will miss him dearly.

A graveside service will be held at Krantz Cemetery in Joelton, Tennessee. Arrangements by the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and Cremation Services. www.henryfuneralhome.org
