Mabel Ellen Lake, age 84, of Battle Creek, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020 at the Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born June 2, 1936 in Barry County, Michigan the daughter of Maurice and Josephine (Treat) Blanck. At the age of 15, she was employed at SS Kresge in downtown Battle Creek at the wage of .55 cents per hour. A graduate of Lakeview High School, she went on to graduate from Kellogg Community College in 1967 as a certified licensed practical nurse. She began her nursing career at Leila Post Hospital and retired in 1994 from the Laurels of Bedford. Nursing was an important part of her life and for several years she assisted her aunt and uncle in their daily activities. She enjoyed her family, friends, visiting with her cousin Susie, animals of all types and collecting. She is survived by four sons: Robert (Pat) Hendryx, James Douglas (Diane) Bunch, Gary (Eileen) Lake and Terry (Annette) Lake; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister Norma J. Smith; brother Dexter Duane (Margaret) Treat; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, sister Laura Lou Hammer, grandson Jason Moore and former husband Donald Lee Lake. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2020 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Calhoun County Animal Center, 165 S. Union Street, Battle Creek, MI 49014.  Arrangements by the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
