Sylvia Carey, age 87, of Battle Creek, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Care Community Residence. She was born July 15, 1933, in Monroe, Michigan, the daughter of Christina and Edward Lickfeldt.
Sylvia played organ for several Battle Creek funeral homes, Custer Chapel, and played at several weddings at various venues. She taught piano and organ lessons in the Battle Creek area. She volunteered her talents to Springfield High School choir and theater. In addition, she worked as a phone operator, and for several years as secretary to Dr. Ratzlaff.
Sylvia traveled to Haiti on a mission trip, attended community college with her daughter, and attended docent training at Binder Park Zoo. She had a deep love for animals and enjoyed feeding the birds, oil painting, and continued her music education late in life. She greatly enjoyed her family, especially large gatherings.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jonalyn Carey, her daughter, Lisa Carey, and daughter and son- in -law, Dollie and Bryce Cain. Her grandchildren Kayla, Bryce Jr., and Lauren Cain, Genna and Eric Carey. Her great grandchild, Isaiah Long. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; James A. Carey, and daughter; Sheila M. Harvey.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2020, at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A service to honor her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 14, 2020, at Custer Chapel, Springfield, MI.
