Virginia V. “Ginny” Standish, age 78, of Battle Creek, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022, at her daughters home in Grant. She was born December 1, 1943, in Arnett, West Virginia the daughter of Dewey and Flora (Brown) Johnson. Virginia was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek and retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in 1994 where she had worked as a psychiatric nurse assistant for over 30 years. After her retirement she worked at Community Hospital for another five years as well as caring for several elderly friends in the area. On April 27, 1979, Virginia was married to Dan A. Standish in Battle Creek, and he preceded her in death on October 1, 2020. She was also preceded by her parents, a sister Louise Johnson and a brother Andrew Brown. Ginny is survived by her daughter Sheri (Greg) Yesh of Grant, Michigan; three grandchildren: Stacy (Mike) Humphreys of Battle Creek, Michigan, Sara (Scott) Lake of Norway, Michigan and Nolan (Jayne) Yesh of Grant, Michigan; seven great-grandchildren: Josie, Jayda, Amara, Karrah, Kenney, Brandon and Nolan, and one great granddaughter Natalie on the way. She is also survived by her sister Valley Wright of Wauchula, Florida, two brothers: Harry Johnson of Crestview, Ohio and Dave Johnson of Galesburg, Michigan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ginny was an avid walker and a former member of Burnham Brook where she enjoyed exercising. She loved to play all games and cards, bowled in the V.A. bowling league, and enjoyed fishing with her husband. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be held at the funeral home following the service. Private committal services will be held at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family requests memorial contributions be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. www.henryfuneralhome.org
