Battle Creek

Wayne Dee Berger, 88, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away on Monday December 7, 2020, at Reflections Memory Care of Battle Creek.  He was born in Battle Creek on June 6, 1932 to Henry and Mabel (Mitchell) Berger.

Wayne, their only son, graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1950 where he participated in Band (played saxophone), Basketball, and Track.  He was selected for the Battle Creek All-City High School Basketball Team 1949 – 1950.  He graduated from Western Michigan University with a B.A. degree in Business Administration in 1954.  He then honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War returning to raise a family.

He worked for the Kellogg Company for 37 years holding various positions including Plant Millhouse and Grain Cookers, retiring in 1990.  He was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club.  He routinely worked seven days a week to support his family.  In his early years he participated in bowling, golf, boating, and snowmobiling.  He also enjoyed the outdoors and traveling.  He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Marshall Lodge 676.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; his wife, Harriet (Nelson) Berger; step-son, Walter (Butch) Rex Morris Jr.

Wayne is survived by his daughters, Teri L. Evans of Warren, MI, Susan D. Pastirik of Dunn, NC; sons; Mitchell H. (Mary) Berger of Battle Creek, MI, Martin W. (Susan) Berger of Livonia, MI; step-daughter, Susan J. (Richard) Bentley of Battle Creek, Mi; step-son, Robert L. (Robin) Morris of Battle Creek, MI; step-daughter-in-law, Shirley A. (Ron) Worthington of Battle Creek, MI.  He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 14 step- great-grandchildren.

A private military service will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Monday December 14, 2020.
