Harold Oswald, Jr.

Harold George (Ozzie) Oswald Jr. went to be with his Lord on November 23, 2021, where he joined his parents Mildred and Harold Sr as well as his beloved brother Arthur.  Harold was born June 9, 1936, at Walter Reid US Army hospital in Washington DC.  He started school in Essex, Maryland, before traveling around the country with his family as they moved from base to base with the Army.  He moved to Battle Creek in 1945 and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1954.  He was the quarterback for the football team and ran track, holding the school record in the mile for many years.  Harold joined the Coast Guard in 1953 and was stationed in Sault Ste Marie after graduating High School.  After his time in the Coast Guard, he earned his Associates in Business from Kellogg Community College where he helped found the Tech Club.  He married his high school sweetheart, Eileen Martha Aikin, in 1957.  He worked at Kellogg’s for 41 years, retiring in 1995.  He was very active in the Lakeview/ Urbandale Kiwanis club where he served as president and secretary, and even held the Lieutenant Governor office for his district.  Harold loved children and was very active with the Kid’s Cafe and other children’s programs.  He loved music and was an accomplished cornet player.  He enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling, fishing, camping, golfing and bowling.  What he loved most of all was his family.  Harold is survived by his wife of 64 years, his daughter Kathy (Scott) Perry, daughter Jenny (Ben) Harrington, son Eric (Teresa) Oswald, son Jeff (Danni) Oswald, son Jason Oswald, sister Dorothy Billings, 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  Harold’s generosity, dedication to family and friends, and legendary sense of humor will be forever missed.  Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 3, 2021, at Ft Custer National Cemetery.  A celebration of life for friends and family will be held Spring 2022.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Lakeview/Urbandale Kiwanis or Lakeview Baptist Church in Harold’s name would be appreciated.  Arrangements by the Richard A.
