Margery Zuhl

January 13, 1929 — January 27, 2020

Margery Marie Zuhl finished her service to her Lord Monday, January 27, 2020 while with her family at home. She had just celebrated her 91 st birthday and 68 years of marriage to her husband Robert who now survives. She was the youngest of seven children born to James and Jessie (Curl) Holmes at Sloan, Iowa on January 13, 1929. She graduated from Sloan High School in Iowa and received an Associate Degree in Elementary Education from Marion College, now Indiana Wesleyan University. She sang in the college choir who toured throughout the Midwest. She taught a year in Anthon, Iowa before marrying Robert Zuhl, on August 18, 1951. She and Robert formed a gospel team and represented the college in churches over the weekends. During this time, she was also employed at the RCA plant in Marion to help with colleges expenses.

Margery loved to play the piano and the organ which became an important partnership in the pastoral ministry of her husband. She also taught an adult Bible class in their first church in Oak Lawn, IL. Later in larger churches she focused more in children’s ministry. While serving in Waterloo, Iowa she formed a preschool to serve the church and the community. She created a ministry in Battle Creek called “Winning Women” and met weekly for many years with a large number of women attending. Margery was active in a mentoring program at Woodland church, where she was a member, and was constantly with her husband in home and hospital visits. Margery has been a volunteer at Bibles for Missions Thrift Store since its creation. She had the gift of mercy and could sense the needs of people. She was an instrumental part of her husband’s ministry.

She is survived by her husband Robert, son Mark from Sioux City, Iowa, a daughter Dena Olmstead and her husband Mitch from Battle Creek and a son Norman and his wife Kathy from Mesa, AZ. Also, four granddaughters, Holly, Hannah, Renee, Rochelle, and three great grandchildren, Lila, Caroline, and Alexander, and many nieces and nephews.
