May 28, 1941 — January 28, 2021

Battle Creek

Patricia Ann Cox (Walker) age 79, of Battle Creek passed away on January 28, 2021 of complications related to an ongoing illness. Pat was born in Weston, West Virginia and as a girl moved with her family from to Athens, MI, where she attended Athens Schools until her graduation in 1959. Pat lived in Athens until the age of 26, when she moved to Battle Creek. From 1968 she worked for decades at the Veterans Administration Hospital in the food services area. Leaving government service due to injuries sustained in an auto accident, Pat went on to attend Davenport University in Battle Creek where she earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration. In subsequent years Pat was employed as an office worker both by Goodwill Industries and Guardian Finance and Advocacy Services, retiring from the latter. Pat was a longtime resident of The Village of Mill Creek senior housing in Battle Creek and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek.  In 2017 Pat was diagnosed with Late Onset Alzheimer's Disease, which continually progressed until her recent passing. Pat was a music lover and never missed an opportunity to take part in local activities involving music. Beyond her enthusiasm for music, Pat reported her favorite was hugs from her grandchildren. For most of those who knew her, Pat was well known as a kind and understanding person who very rarely judged and instead embraced others, despite how they may in some ways have been unlike herself. Her mother Bessie Walker and father Fred Walker Sr. were both residents of Athens. Pat's oldest siblings were half-brother Bob Kiefer and half-sister Rose Laman, both of whom lived in Florida and are now deceased. Her more immediate, now deceased, siblings were Betty Bloss and Paul Walker, both from the Battle Creek area. Pat is survived by her brother Fred Walker, Jr. of Athens and sister Shelby Holifield of Battle Creek. She is also survived by her son Drew Walker, her daughter-in-law Barbara Kimball Walker, and her two grandchildren Leo Kimball Walker and Liliana Kimball Walker, all formerly of Marshall, MI and now living, working and studying abroad. Due to matters concerning the ongoing pandemic, a memorial service for Pat must unfortunately be postponed until a future date.
